Starting a society on a brand-new planet is no small feat. Between exploring uncharted territory, nurturing Seedlings, and managing the many urgent tasks of colony life, there’s little time to waste. But amidst all the excitement and pressure of building a new world, one critical element can sometimes be overlooked: food production.
While it may seem like a minor concern in the early stages of building a society, food is, of course, essential for survival. And on Avesta, even the simplest tasks can quickly become complicated. As it turns out, decay is a reality for all societies, regardless of where they are in the universe. Even on this distant new planet, the basic laws of biology and nature continue to apply.
Realizing the looming challenge of food sustainability, the Leader of Brutopia, JJ, wasted no time in addressing the issue. Understanding that food production would soon become a pressing matter, JJ called for a shift in focus from crafting to agriculture. With the purchase of five growboxes from Novalith, Brutopia has expanded its food production capacity to keep pace with the growing needs of its society.
Meanwhile, in Crimson Vale, a different kind of crisis was narrowly avoided. Last Sunday, the society underwent a major shift in governance, transitioning from Anarchy to an Electoral Autocracy. Just in time for the transition, Jan cleverly stepped in with the creation of a food production business. This strategic move has ensured that Crimson Vale won’t face an immediate food shortage, securing enough resources to support their population during this critical period of political and social change.
The challenges of food production are becoming evident across Avesta. As these societies grow and evolve, it will be fascinating to watch how each one handles the inevitable decay of their food supplies and the complexities of long-term food sustainability. How will these newly-formed societies balance growth and nourishment? Time will tell.
